Santo Domingo Convent

Historical and architectural beauty

Its construction, of plateresque and mudejar style, dates from the XVI century. Inside the temple there are valuable structures, such as the neo-Gothic main altar, which was placed at the end of the 19th century by Italian Dominicans. The ceiling of the church, in Mudejar style, exhibits paintings of martyrs of the Order of Santo Domingo. The roof of the central nave is one of its important attractions. One of the baroque jewels of the XVIII century that is jealously guarded is the Chapel of the Rosary, a bastion of the religious architecture of Quito. The architectural complex includes a remarkable religious museum.
